Start of a Fantastic Run

The 1992 Conval girls’ soccer team achieved the best record in program history, as Coach John Step’s team (John is now an assistant for the boys’ team) compiled an outstanding 12-3-1 regular season before being upset by Stevens in the quarterfinals of the state tournament.

Stevens did them in 1993 and 1994, too. In fact, Conval was snake-bit in the opening round of the playoffs for several years thereafter. But the ’92 season was the start of the most remarkable stretch of Conval girls’ soccer history as the Cougars were a Class I (D2) powerhouse until the 2000 season.

John “retired” from his coaching position in 1999, when Cindy Hixson led the Cougars to the quarter-final round. The ’92 squad featured three of four outstanding Jutras sisters—Michelle, Veronica and Natalie—as well as other members of the girls’ basketball squad that won the state title in 1994. NH All State players from the '92 team included Paula Connard, Emily Drury, Nicki Keil and Kristin Connor.

If you can name the players from this great ’92 soccer team, let us know!
